Lemon Yellow Pee…

I don’t know if this happens to anyone else, but being around lots of kids in a classroom sometimes seems to fine tune the subconscious brain’s alert system into high gear at the weirdest times.

In the last class of 2nd graders I taught this week, I thought I heard:

“Lemon Yellow Pee…”

ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ALERT, LOCATE, ISOLATE…until the small sing song voice continued:

“…Q, R, S, T, U, V…”

Emergency alert canceled…

Love it!!
I did a right clanger today. We are learning the grapheme 'a' and the children were coming up to the board and moving words into correct columns.
One little scrap moved 'vase' into the 'ai' column. I then spent 5 minutes explaining that he had a good try but it was actually 'ar'. We all sounded out the sound and syllables etc etc.
It then dawned on me that he is American, and you guys say v'ai'se.
Whoops. Hope he forgives me!!
