Dr's Note?

When I heard the news about thousands of teachers missing school to attend protest rallies outside the Wisconsin State Capitol, I thought "Wow! must be a full employment day for substitute teachers". Not so. I read that they just closed all the schools for lack of teachers. It's just one less potential "payday" for all WI substitute teachers.

How does one just skip work without a valid excuse and not get fired? Here's how the Madison teachers did it:

As a substitute teacher, I would probably not cross the picket line to work even if I had the opportunity ... they are fighting for the bargaining rights I want to have when I get a full-time teaching job.

GT,

"...not cross the picket line"

Technically there isn't a picket line. They were all "...at home sick".

Wow. Liberals make me sick. What those teachers are doing is so unethical...

Without unions, there'd likely be far fewer substitute teachers in the first place! The class would just be added to someone else's class or sent to the gym, etc.

Kind of funny reading this after the one about bathroom breaks and the lack thereof without planning and forethought for teachers (and heaven forbid you have some unforeseen bathroom need!)
